What Can a Body Do? Anime Pushes at Its Limits

One of my biggest dreams within the realm of scientific advancement is the invention of smell-o-vision. Whenever TV hosts say "boy I wish you could smell this!", I'm always like fuck yes I wish I could smell that.

Until then, the best we can get when it comes to bridging the TV/real-world experience gap is to actually taste, do, see, smell what we watch on our screens. This was a long-winded way of saying I started playing volleyball because of Haikyuu and my lord is it fun. It's also funny because judging by the number of Asian teams and Haikyuu team names, a lot of people had the same idea. An almost meme-y atmosphere overtakes the court with people screaming "NICE SERVE" and "DON'T MIND", which is when you know you're playing surrounded by fellow weebs.

Now, why am I writing about this? Well, the key thing I wanted to talk about is that satisfying feeling of actualization because it feels good to embody the person you see on screen. Even to this day, I dream about piloting a Gundam or shooting energy from my hands, but the reality is that will never happen. Yes your forearms kill and I've already twisted my ankle and fingers, but there's no better feeling than scoring and coming together as a team to celebrate.

I can only imagine what this game is like when you're actually good...
