Attack on Titan: The Beauty of a Good Plot

Do you really need another person telling you to read/watch Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)? No. Am I still going to do it? Yes.

Attack on Titan tells the story of a dystopian world where society lives within 3 large walls to protect them from being eaten alive by titans (large humanoid creatures). What differentiates this series from other equally hyped shounens is its haunting depiction of loss, anger and the human psyche. Plot armour is kept at a minimum, popular and much-loved characters will die, and the story is grounded by balanced peaks and troughs. Mystery, action, and the supernatural are all crammed into AoT with no sight of pointless filler (looking at you Naruto).

My favourite part of this series is by far the character development, in particular, the conviction and mindset of the main character, Eren Jaeger. Yes, the animation and fight scenes absolutely SLAP, but the way AoT tells the story of both its primary and secondary characters is second to none. As you watch this series, relationships between characters and the world around them will shift and make you question where your allegiances lie, leaving you in a constant state of confusion and angst. In my opinion, this series can stand up to the likes of Steins Gate and Psycho-Pass.

Favourite character/titan - Hange Zoë/Cart titan
